Sometimes you need an easy wine that you can enjoy with friends, family and a meal without having to hem and haw over what to open. I really like simple wines that can be opened without the need for ceremony. Picpoul de Pinet is one of those varietals that offers zero pretense in its packaging, price or region. This Languedoc wine is very reminiscent of its northern Loire neighbor Muscadet.
This wine is crisp, light and delicious, and should be enjoyed with cheese and raw shellfish as the weather continues to warm.
Val des Ours
Some of my favorite cheeses come from the Pyrenées and are most often made from goat's milk. This one is no different. It is slightly sweet with plenty of earthy and herbaceous flavors to go along with it. This cheese is a perfect complement to a glass of light fresh crisp white wine.
