I am a lover of Burgundy, no doubt about it, and this wine exhibits many things I love in a Burgundy: an intensely aromatic nose, finesse, texture and balance. Wines at the village level rarely display as much character as this wine does. The 2009 vintage produced ripe full wines that are showing beautifully as young wines.
The Domaine, formerly known as Domaine Robert Arnoux, is now in the hands of Robert's son-in-law, Pascal Lachaux. He has been working with the winery since the mid 1980's, and took over winemaking control in the mid 1990's. The Domaine dates back to 1858, so, with so many years of experience, there is no wonder they are at the top of their game making some of the best wine to come out of Vosne-Romanée.
Try it with duck, French or Chinese spices suit the wine best. And, a little cheese never hurts.
Camembert Fermier
Cow
France
$20 each approx. 8 ounces.
The key with this cheese is the word "Fermier" or "from the farm". This farm fresh Camembert shows what Normandie has to offer with the area's exquisite milk products. Pungent, gooey and wonderful! One of my favorite cheeses when the weather gets a little crisp.
